Some home and business owners in Moline have received an early present from the city. Following a decision in October by the city council that they were no longer needed, utility deposits have been refunded to more than 2,000 accounts.
A spokesman for the Moline Finance Department says most home-owners had to deposit 100 dollars when they first signed up for water, sewer, and garbage service. And once the bills had been paid on time for two years, the money was refunded.
Rental and commercial properties received checks, while home-owners had the deposit amount credited to their quarterly bill.
The refunds from the city totaled more than 200,000 dollars.
