Moline Prepares to Hire City Administrator

dailyherald.com

A new city administrator could start working for Moline next month. Tuesday night the city council will vote on hiring Doug Maxeiner after a nationwide search.

Maxeiner is currently the village administrator for the Chicago suburb of Wauconda, but his wife has been working out here for Black Hawk College for the past year.

"The Quad Cities is attractive to us because of the size of the metro area, the historic nature of Moline and some of the opportunities in the downtown area - it's vibrant and thriving."

He began his career in city administration 25 years ago as a financial analyst for the city of Rockford. And for the past 13 years, he's worked as administrator or manager for several cities in the Chicago area.

Maxeiner says one of his first responsibilities in Moline will be to put together a long-term financial plan for the city.

He replaces Lew Steinbrecher who retired last fall, and was succeeded on an interim basis by Public Works Director J.D. Schulte.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
