The cost of garbage and recycling may go up for residents of Moline. Tonight the city council is scheduled to vote on a staff proposal to raise the monthly cost by a-dollar-80.
Public works director, Mike Waldron, says the current cost is 10-dollars and 18 cents, and with the increase, it would go to 11.98 per month. And in addition, from now on garbage and recycling would be self-supporting.
Currently, revenue from property taxes pays part of the cost for sanitation in the city.
Moline residents already pay separate fees, and not property taxes, for stormwater, sewer, and water service.
Waldron says if the council approves, the increase would go into effect in January, the beginning of Moline's next fiscal year.
