Moline Aldermen to Consider Interim Police Chief Appointment

Moline's city administrator has appointed an interim police chief. Today, Doug Maxeiner announced he worked with the Illinois Assocation of Chiefs of Police to select Robert Finney of Champaign.

Since early September, Moline Police Lieutenant Dave Gass has been serving as Acting Chief. But Maxeiner says the department needs Gass to return to his regular duties in the Service Division.

Gass began leading the department after former Police Chief John Hitchcock was arrested for drunken driving in Iowa. Last month, Hitchcock announced his immediate retirement. He has also pleaded guilty to a charge of Operating While Intoxicated.

If the city council approves next week, Maxeiner says Finney will start his job as Moline Interim Police Chief on November 19th.

Finney has 30 years of experience in law enforcement including serving as police chief in Carbondale (1999-2003) and Champaign (2003-2012). Since he retired, Finney has served as interim police chief in a number of cities, such as Bloomington and East Peoria.

Maxeiner says Finney will live in Moline and make about $2,600 dollars per week. And the formal search for a permanent police chief will begin soon.
