Mississippi River Holding Steady in the QC

National Weather Service
Miss. R. in the QC Tuesday afternoon

Despite all the rain that's fallen, the Mississippi River is not expected to rise much for at least a week. Tuesday in the Quad Cities, the river is at 1 1/2 feet over flood stage, and is forecast to hold near that level through next Tuesday.

Just last week the National Weather Service predicted it would rise here 3 to 5 feet over flood stage, and some flood cleanup work in Davenport and the rest of the Quad Cities has stopped in anticipation of another high crest.

One hint of what might happen - in Dubuque on Tuesday, the River is half a foot over flood stage, and should stay near that level until the weekend, when it's expected to rise 1 1/2 feet or more through early next week.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
