Mississippi Rising, Rock Falling

National Weather Service
Monday morning's level in the QC

As the Rock River begins to fall, the Mississippi River continues to rise.

The National Weather Service says the Rock River crested Sunday at both Joslin and Moline - 3 1/2 feet over flood stage at Joslin and 1.7 feet over flood stage in Moline. And the river should drop below flood stage at both locations by Thursday and Friday.

Since Friday, the Mississippi River in the Quad Cities has risen 2 feet, and is now one foot below flood stage. It's expected to crest on Saturday at 1.4 feet over flood stage.

On the Wapsipinicon River at Dewitt, the river has crested at 7-tenths of a foot over flood stage, and will probably hold at that level through Friday.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
