Miss. River Rising

National Weather Service
the Miss. River in the QC mid-morning Wednesday

Thanks to heavy rain in recent days up north, the city of Davenport has activated its flood plan. The Mississippi River is 1 1/2 feet below flood stage on Wednesday, and is forecast to crest on Friday at half a foot over flood stage.

After that it's expected to begin falling.

Wednesday morning, the city closed South Concord between Utah and River Drive, and two other nearby streets, Wapello and Miller, will probably close on Thursday. The riverfront bike trail will probably be closed later on Wednesday, or Thursday, between the Marquette Landing and Credit Island.

And city staff says the Make A Wish Walk for Wishes may have to change its route on Saturday, depending on river levels.

More rain in the forecast could change current projections.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
