Mega Stop at SouthPark

WVIK Staff

With help from federal money, and SouthPark Mall, Metro Link has built what it calls a "mega stop" at the mall. A ribbon cutting was held Monday morning to celebrate its completion.

Metro Link manager of administration, Jennifer Garrity, says the new covered platform can accommodate four buses, and includes signs and seats. And it leads to the mall entrance near the J.C. Penney store.
Federal transit funds paid for the 1.1 million dollar cost.

Garrity calls it's called a "mega stop" because it's "more than a shelter, and not quite a bus station" - it's somewhere in between.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
