A Rock Island man convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend will stay in prison. Monday the Illinois Third District Appellate Court upheld the conviction and sentence of Timothy McVay.

He was sentenced to 40 years for the murder of 29 year old Carrie Olson of Davenport.

She was last seen on December 29, 2013, and her family reported her missing the following day. But Olson's body wasn't found until three months later, in southern Minnesota.

McVay went to trial in 2015, and in his decision, the judge said there was very little direct evidence against him, but a lot of circumstantial evidence. And that the only reasonable conclusion was that he killed her in his home on December 29.

McVay appealed, claiming the prosecution did not prove she was murdered, and that he did it. Along with the 40 year sentence for murder, he was sentenced to 5 more yearsfor concealing her death.

After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
