McGehee Announces Re-election Campaign

After serving one term as Rock Island County State's Attorney, John McGeHee is ready for another. Monday morning, McGehee announced he's running for re-election.

Michelle O'Neill reports.
Summary
Four years ago, democrat John McGehee , promised to make his office more visible and responsive to people in the community. He also promised to improve the Victim Coordinator program.

If re-elected, McGehee would provide more training for the eleven attorneys on staff. For example, more and more criminal cases require proficiency gathering evidence from smart phones.

The state's attorney promises to continue to "do more with less" given a tight budget and improve the criminal complaint process, especially communicating with possible victims.

McGehee also calls the murder conviction of Timothy McVay as one of his proudest moments as a prosecutor and leader. He created a special team to work on the case after the Rock Island man was arrested and accused of killing Carrie Olson.

Officially, Michelle's title for 28 years was WVIK News Editor. She did everything there is to do in the newsroom and whatever was needed around the radio station. She also served as Acting News Director from September 2023 - January 2024.
