Some Davenport Democrats gathered in the auditorium of West High School last night (Mon) to caucus for their favorite nominees.
But before counting began, surrogates spoke to the crowd of 150, talking up their candidates' positions on health insurance, the environment, and electability.
Shoshanna White came to support Bernie Sanders. She said caucusing in 2016 is what brought her out again for this year.
"Last time I did it, it was two votes between Bernie and Hillary. And I was all for Bernie," said White. "But it hits reality, that if those two people didn't show up, well I could have been one of those two people."After two rounds of counting, Bernie Sanders came out ahead, with 44 votes and 2 delegates to the county convention. Pete Buttigieg trailed just behind with 41 votes and 1 delegate, while Joe Biden had 32 votes and 1 delegate as well. Amy Klobuchar also received a delegate, with 23 votes, just one above the cacuses cut-off for viability.
A few people turned out for Elizabeth Warren, Tom Steyer, Andrew Yang, and Michael Bloomberg, but not enough to be viable or win any delegates.
