Lower Bills for Iowa Utility Customers

Jul 16, 2018

Customers of MidAmerican Energy in Iowa will get a break on their monthly bills next year, thanks to the legislature and governor.

During the spring session, the Iowa legislature reduced the amount of money MidAmerican and other utilities are required to collect for energy efficiency programs. Company spokeswoman Tina Hoffman says that will translate into lower bills.

"We know that if the proposed plan is accepted by the utilities board, the average residential customer with gas and electric service could save about 81 dollars a year."

Commercial customers could save 170 dollars, while MidAmerican's average industrial customers could save more than 12,000 dollars a year.

Gas and electric utilities have filed new rate plans with the Iowa Utilities Board which must make a decision by next March (2019).

Hoffman emphasizes MidAmerican will still be able to offer a wide range of energy efficiency programs, to help customers save energy and save money.
