Local Start-Up Receives State Help

Iowa will help a local startup expand. Today, The Iowa Economic Development Authority awarded $100,000 to JumpOnIt, a company that helps local businesses provide exclusive deals to area residents.

The Davenport-based company was founded last year and now operates here and in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. In the Quad Cities alone, it offers deals from nearly 200 businesses. Users sign up and receive daily deals via text message.

Co-founder Katie Wilson says JumpOnIt will use the state money to expand in other cities and to create a few jobs.

Wilson says over 25,000 people in the Quad Cities have signed up for her company's text service.

JumpOnIt currently plans to open later this year in Des Moines, Iowa City, and Peoria.

I am currently a senior at Augustana College, majoring in Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication with a minor in Creative Writing. I serve as the General Manager for WAUG.fm, Augustana's online student radio station and have worked as an intern and DJ at Studstill Media Group. I report on local news for WVIK and am honored and excited to be a part of the news team. I hope to pursue a career in radio broadcasting and an eventual master's degree in English or Communications.
