Local Organizations Recognized for Healthy Workplaces

Be Healthy Quad Cities

Some local governments, schools, and businesses are being recognized for promoting healthy eating and exercise in the workplace. Last week, the Quad City Health Initiative announced ten organizations have earned the title of a Be Healthy QC Workplace.

Executive Director Nicole Carkner says the winners include the cities of Bettendorf and Davenport, Augustana College, the Pleasant Valley School District, UPS, and Family Resources.

Be Healthy QC started encouraging healthy living in workplaces last year, by focusing on simple changes, such as prohibiting tobacco use, keeping healthy food in the office, and motivating employees to walk to work or take the stairs.

Carkner hopes these changes will make it easier for people to make the same changes at home.

Carkner says most healthy initiatives are simple to implement and cost-effective. And, Be Healthy QC wants employers to make these official policies, so they'll continue long-term.

Organizations apply to be recognized as a Be Healthy QC Workplace, and are given the title if they implement at least half of the suggested changes.

The ten organizations receiving the Be Healthy QC Workplace recognition will be given certificates and signs to hang in their offices. Since last year, 17 local organizations have been recognized by the Quad City Health Initiative.
