Adults in Iowa who want to finish high school now have more options. Eastern Iowa Community Colleges now offer three more ways to earn credits in addition to "HiSET" - which is very similar to a GED.
Dean of Adult and Online Education, Scott Schneider, says standarized tests and programs work for some, but not everyone. So the colleges received approval from the state to a offer a credit recovery option.
"For example, a student may have already completed all of their math requirements while they were in high school. They come to us. They need a high school equivalency. With the credit recovery, they wouldn't have to take any additional math. They would just take the courses that are missing on their transcript."
Clinton, Muscatine, and Scott community colleges are also offering two other new options for earning high school equivalency. It's for anyone with an associate's degree or higher, earned from accredited schools in the US or abroad.
