Illinois colleges and universities, like Augustana College, have been reallocating funds to cover for missing state dollars.

On Friday, Illinois lawmakers approved $600 million in short-term aid for state colleges and universities. Governor Bruce Rauner is expected to sign the measure, which includes nearly $170 million for Monetary Assistance Program grants to low-income students.

Many schools, including Augustana College, have been internally reallocating funds to cover for the missing grant money. Jay Pearce caught up with Sean Crawford, host of Illinois Public Radio’s “State Week in Review” to find out more about what this action does and doesn’t mean.

Jay H. Pearce became the station's general manager Oct. 3, 2011. More than half of his 40-year career in broadcasting has been in public broadcasting. He retired on Oct. 27, 2022.
