Time is running out for those who haven't claimed their stimulus checks from the first—and so far only—round of direct coronavirus relief aid. The IRS has sent letters to over 300,000 Illinoisans, warning that the deadline to request their CARES Act money is this Saturday, Nov. 21 at 3 p.m.

"You know, the lowest income people in Illinois weren't going to get their checks automatically. So, the people who need it less get them automatically, and the people who need them the most would not get them."
Bassett says people who didn't file taxes in 2019 and people who receive retirement or veterans benefits didn't get their checks automatically. She usually directs them to the non-filer portal on the IRS website.After it closes this Saturday, she says it will be even harder to access CARES Act money.
