The state of Iowa has announced grants to help a wide range of small businesses survive the pandemic, including restaurants, bars, shops, and even dog grooming salons.
Kanan Kappelman, from the Iowa Economic Development Authority, says the money comes from the state's Small Business Relief Program. Applicants had to describe their "economic injury."
"We were looking specifically at revenue loss and we were also reviewing additional financial documentation that included the impact to their workforce."
The state received 14,000 applications last month, with requests totaling 148 million dollars. And it awarded grants to 1,270, adding up to 24 million dollars.
Recipients in the Quad Cities range from brew pubs and sports bars, to a wig shop, and beauty salon.
Kappleman says another round of grants is possible depending on how much money Iowa receives from the recently passed federal Cares Act.
