Immigration Reform Procession & Vigil

Assembly for Civil Rights

Hoping to influence the campaign for president, an immigration reform group from Minnesota is traveling across Iowa this week. And one of the stops by the Assembly for Civil Rights will be in Davenport Thursday.

Leslie Kilgannon, from Quad Cities Interfaith, says their goal is to promote "meaningful and humane immigration reform."
The Assembly planned to stop first in Postville today, site of a major immigration raid in 2008, and Waterloo. Then travel to Iowa City Thursday morning, and Davenport in the afternoon.

Thursday afternoon the group will march in downtown Davenport, joined by local clergy and other organizations. They'll hold a prayer vigil at the Irish Memorial which honors earlier groups of immigrants to the area.

Kilgannon says this weekend the Assembly for Civil Rights plans to demonstrate at an immigration detention center in Des Moines, and talk with candidates at the Iowa State Fair.
