The anniversary celebration has started for a downtown Davenport landmark. Tuesday night the Hotel Blackhawk held a kickoff to mark its centennial.
100 years ago this week, the hotel first opened. And 4 years ago this week, Amy and Amrit Gill, and their company, Restoration Saint Louis, re-opened the hotel after a 46 million dollar renovation.
Amy Gill says the celebration is for the Blackhawk, but also for the downtown development it inspired.
She says a lot has happened here, and in the world, since the hotel first opened in 1915, including wars, the space race, and numerous presidents.
The centennial celebration will include special drinks and menus, and showing movies in the parking lot when the weather warms up, and it'll end with a gala event in November.
Restoration Saint Louis has also renovated several other buildings in downtown Davenport, for apartments and condominiums, and has more projects in the works, including the Kahl Building.
