Area hospitals are limiting the number of visits to patients in an attempt to quell the number of flu cases.

Due to an increase in the number of flu cases, some new rules are going into effect at Quad Cities area hospitals. Starting Thursday, both Unity Point Health-Trinity and Genesis Health System are asking people to limit their visits to patients to try to prevent additional cases, and other respiratory illnesses.

In addition, all hospital visitors must be at least 18 years old, and anyone with flu symptoms including a fever, cough or sore throat should not visit any hospitalized patients.

The two hospital groups also advise washing your hands regularly, getting a flu shot because it's not too late, covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and if you're sick, staying home and avoiding public places.

After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
