Honor for QC Health Initiative

An effort that began 16 years ago has won some national recognition. The Quad Cities is one of 15 finalists for the 3rd annual Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Culture of Health Prize.

Nicole Carkner, executive director of the Quad City Health Initiative, says the prize is given to communities that build what's called a "culture of health" for all residents.

And she says creating a "culture of health" has been the goal of the Quad Cities Health Initiative since it was founded 16 years ago.

Winners of the prize will be announced in the fall.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
