Tomorrow, the Canadian Pacific Railway's Holiday Train will make a stop in Davenport. Every other year, the train travels through Illinois and Iowa (and other parts of North America) to benefit food pantries. And this stop will help more than 20 pantries sponsored by Churches United of the Quad City Area.
Andy Cummings, from Canadian Pacific, says people are invited to bring food to donate, or better yet, cash. That's because food banks get a discount and can buy more food if they have the money.
A Canadian band called The Trews will perform, including John-Angus MacDonald who encourages people to bring canned goods to fill pantry shelves, and the band will provide the music for dancing.
He says giving and helping others is the spirit of the season and the spirit of the Holiday Train.
Churches United says since 2008, the train has helped collect 55,000 pounds of food for Quad Cities pantries and meal sites.
The Holiday Train should arrive Tuesday afternoon at 1:45 near Modern Woodmen Park. After the Davenport show, it'll continue chugging north for stops in Clinton at 4:15 pm, Bellevue at 6:45, and Dubuque at 8:30. On Sunday, the brightly decorated Canadian Pacific locomotive and 14 cars visited Savanna, IL and Muscatine, IA plus other cities.
