Hitchcock Appointed Moline Police Chief

City of Moline

A long time member of the Moline police department will probably be its next chief.

Thursday, city administrator Douglas Maxeiner announced his choice of John Hitchcock. The appointment will go to the city council next Tuesday for its approval.

Hitchcock has been serving as interim police chief since last summer following the retirement of Public Safety Director Kim Hankins. Hitchcock began his career as a patrol officer in 1992, and has steadily risen through the ranks, becoming a captain in 2016.

He was selected from a pool of 49 applicants from 16 states and four countries. The list was narrowed down to 6 finalists who were then interviewed by a panel of city officials and Bettendorf Police Chief Phil Redington. Hitchcock was their unanimous choice.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
