Hart Files for Congress

Rita Hart Campaign

At least three candidates will run in the June primary election to succeed Iowa Second District Congressman Dave Loebsack. Tuesday Democrat Rita Hart from Wheatland filed her petitions and other documents to qualify for the ballot.

The Hart campaign says it submitted nearly 4,000 signatures, more than twice the 1,600 she needed.

Two Republican candidates have already filed - State Senator Mariannette Miller-Meeks from Ottumwa and Rick Phillips, a small business owner in Pella.

Fellow Republican Bobby Schilling from LeClaire is also running for the seat, but has not yet officially filed with the Iowa Secretary of State's office. The filing deadline for federal and state offices is March 13th.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
