Garrison Change of Command

Army Garrsion-Rock Island Arsenal
(l to r) Col. Kenneth Tauke, Col. Elmer Speights, Jr.

An Iowa native will be the next leader of the Army Garrison on Arsenal Island. Friday morning, during a change of command ceremony, Colonel Kenneth Tauke will take over from Colonel Elmer Speights.
Speights has been commander of the Garrison for three years.

Originally from Worthington, Iowa, Tauke has held a variety of positions, mainly in the military police, since he first enlisted in the Army in 1982. He's served in Afghanistan and Qatar, and most recently as a provost marshall at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, in Washington state.

The change of command ceremony begins at 10 am Friday, at Quarters One, on Arsenal Island.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
