Former Chairman of Deere Dies

Augustana College

A former chairman of Deere and Company has died. Robert Hanson died on Thursday in Florida - he was 91 years old.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Trimble Funeral Home in Moline.

Hanson worked for Deere for more than 40 years. In 1978 he was appointed president and became the first company president not related to John Deere. The following year he was named president and ceo, and became chairman and ceo in 1982, serving until 1990.

A native of East Moline, he graduated from Augustana College in 1948.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
