Forecast Raised for Mississippi River

National Weather Service
Miss. River at QC 6/26/18

The forecast for the Mississippi River in the Quad Cities has been revised - and will go higher than expected.

Instead of a crest this weekend at 1 1/2 feet over flood stage, the National Weather Service now says the river should crest here at 2 feet above flood stage, on Sunday. And at that level, water covers most of LeClaire Park in downtown Davenport, and begins to affect nearby parking lots.

Meanwhile, the Rock River continues to fall at both Joslin and Moline, but thanks to more rain upstream, the river will rise a couple of tenths of a foot on Friday and Saturday, but then start falling again.

At Dewitt, the Wapsipinicon River is holding steady at 7-tenths of a foot over flood stage. It should begin to fall slowly later this week.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
