Flash Flood Warning North of QCs & T-storm Watch

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN THE QUAD CITIES HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR... NORTHEASTERN HENRY COUNTY IN NORTHWESTERN ILLINOIS... NORTHWESTERN BUREAU COUNTY IN NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS... SOUTHEASTERN WHITESIDE COUNTY IN NORTHWESTERN ILLINOIS... * UNTIL 1030 PM CDT * AT 431 PM CDT...DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING HEAVY RAIN ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. UP TO TWO INCHES OF RAIN HAVE ALREADY FALLEN. FLASH FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN SHORTLY. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN THE WARNED AREA. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... TURN AROUND...DON`T DROWN WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS. MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN VEHICLES. EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS...COUNTRY ROADS...FARMLAND...AND OTHER LOW LYING SPOTS.

In addition to a severe thunderstorm watch for the counties in pink on the map, forecasters from the National Weather Service say a line of strong thunderstorms will affect Carroll, Whiteside, Clinton, and Jackson counties through 4:45 p.m. 
At 3:39 p.m. radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located along a line extending from miles to near Fairhaven to near Tampico. The movement was northeast at 15 mph.
Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail are possible with these storms.
 
Locations impacted include...Clinton... Sterling... Rock Falls... Morrison... Mount  Carroll... Fulton... Savanna... Prophetstown... Lanark... Tampico... and Sabula. This includes interstate 88 between mile markers 20 and 44.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roads.

The National Weather Service has just issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the northern part of the WVIK listening area. It's in effect until 11 pm for the Iowa counties of Clinton, Dubuque, Jackson, Jones, and Linn. And for the Illinois counties of Carroll and Jo Daviess.
