Children in prison are featured in a new art exhibit in the Quad Cities. Over the weekend, the Figge Art Museum in Davenport opened "Girls in Justice." Richard Ross photographed the children in juvenile jails across the country. And 53 of his most recent photos are on display.
Figge Director Tim Schiffer says the purpose of "Girls in Justice" is to tell their stories about being incarcerated, for crimes ranging from schoolyard fights to assault.
Ross, the photographer, has spent 8 years visiting juvenile detention centers, compiling the stories of children in a project called "Juvenile in Justice." "Girls in Justice" is a spin-off of that project.
The exhibit at the Figge will continue until March 15th. And Ross is scheduled to speak at the museum on March 12th. He'll also visit juvenile detention centers here.
