The celebration of the Figge Art Museum's 10th annversary just keeps getting bigger. Today, children, teens, and adults are enjoying free art activities, bands, hip-hop, birthday cake, and more. There's no charge to visit the Figge in Davenport until early this fall.
Education Director, Melissa Mohr, says it's also the 90th anniversary of the Davenport Municipal Art Gallery. And more activities are on the schedule for everyone who visits this summer.
Today, kids and their parents created hats, collages, and sketches. They also picked up lists of home activities to learn more about the Figge's collections. The Muscatine River Monster also re-appeared after a visit in June. This time it's on the roof.
Tonight's schedule features swing dancing, spin art, and games on the plaza, plus River Music Experience's QC Rock Academy Band, Identity Crisis, and hip-hop artist, Nom.
A collaborative art project looks like a small, blue building on the plaza outside. Three local artists worked together to create it. And Mohr says people can walk through it, exploring works of art on the inside. It'll be on display at the Figge Art Museum through mid-September.
