East Moline Public Library needs more help raising money for a new library. The goal is $7.1 million, and the library is asking the public to help raise the final $2.1 million. TBK Bank donated a building in downtown East Moline that will be renovated as the new library.
Director Laura Long says for years, the current library has been too small to meet patrons' needs. But it's been a struggle to figure out how to raise the money.
"It's almost impossible to save your way to a new building, so we were so lucky and so grateful that TBK Bank donated that building, because that put us on the right track to get moving on this project and is basically a down payment to get started on this construction."
The library has already raised $1 million on its own, and East Moline native, Louis Woodworth, donated another million. In addition, the East Moline Community Fund and private donors have made significant contributions.
