The votes are in, and the names of the eaglets hatched this year in Riverdale are Apollo, Gemini, and Mercury. Parents, Liberty and Justice, are raising the three in their nest at Arconic's Davenport Works.
Spokesman John Riches says Apollo, Gemini and Mercury are names from the US space program. And all those missions used aluminum produced at the Davenport factory.
Of nearly 4,000 votes cast in the eaglets naming poll, Apollo, Gemini, and Mercury received the most at 1,091. That's only 25 more than the number of votes for Scout, Braveheart, and Hunter (1,066). Orville, Wilbur, and Amelia were a distant third (689), followed by Valor, Nova, and Journey in fourth (509), and then Penny, Sheldon, and Leonard (504).
