Downtown Davenport Partnership Year in Review

Financial District Properties

The numbers are "eye popping." That's how the Kyle Carter, executive director of the Downtown Davenport Partnership, sums up the past year.

The division of the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce held its annual meeting this morning.
Carter says projects completed since last July total 44 million dollars with about 80 million worth of construction now underway. And with the addition of 170 new apartments, there are more than 12-hundred downtown.

He credits city leaders and their commitment to helping downtown Davenport.
Projects completed during the past year include the Union Arcade and Pershing Lofts.

Also at today's meeting, the Partnership unveiled some plans for the future, including improvements to what Carter calls the "western gateway" - between Brown and Ripley streets.

One recommendation: demolish the Ground Transportation Center.

Research also shows Davenport will continue to add rental housing in the coming years, especially downtown.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
