Davenport Schools To Consider Changing Start Times

Davenport Community Schools

The Davenport Community School Board is scheduled Monday night to discuss changing start times for the 2018-2019 school year.

Under the Proposed Bell Time Model, some students would begin their day 20 minutes earlier, while others would begin 25 minutes later.

The school district says this would lower transportation costs by eliminating the need for five school bus routes, amounting to savings of up to $300,000 in the district's General Fund, which is used for instructional materials and teacher salaries.

The proposal was drafted by School Bus Consultants, which the district hired to assist with its five-year budget reduction plan.

The proposed changes will be discussed at 5:30 p.m. Monday, during the committee-of-the-whole meeting at the Achievement Service Center building on Brady Street.

The proposal is scheduled for a vote at the following board meeting on June 11.
