Davenport Primary Results

The next mayor of Davenport will be a current member of the city council. In Tuesday’s primary, the two, top vote-getters were Mike Matson from the 7th Ward, and Rita Rawson who represents the 5th Ward. They’ll advance to the general election ballot on November 5th. And one will replace Frank Klipsch who did not run for re-election.

In a field of six candidates, Matson received 33 per cent of the vote, followed by Rawson at 22.9 per cent. And coming in a very close third was Dan Portes at 22.8 per cent, or just eight votes behind Rawson.

In the primary for the 3rd Ward, incumbent Marion Meginnis received 65 per cent of the vote, and joining her on next month’s ballot will be Phil Armer.

Incumbent 4th Ward alderman Ray Ambrose received the most votes, followed by Jeffrey Bass - a distant second.

And in the primary for Davenport’s 5th Ward, with no incumbent on the ballot, the top two were Matthew Dohrmann and Kristi Miller.

Turnout for Tuesday’s city primary was 6,500 out of more than 72,000 registered voters - or nine per cent.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
