Davenport Police Collect Toys for Abuse Victims

Davenport Police Association
Last year's toy drive

Davenport police officers will spend their weekend making Christmas a little brighter for children who are victims of abuse. Tomorrow and Sunday, officers will hold the annual Domestic Violence Toy Drive, at NorthPark Mall.

Sergeant Eric Gruenhagen says Family Resources used to hold the toy drive for children living in domestic violence shelters. But 13 years ago, the office was broken into and all the toys were stolen. That's when the Davenport Police Association took the drive over.
Police will give the toys to Family Resources, who will distribute them to children at shelters in five local counties. Last year, Davenport Police also collected $3,000 for the non-profit.

Gruenhagen says the Davenport Police Domestic Violence Toy Drive will run tomorrow from 10 am to 6 pm, and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm, at NorthPark Mall, on the south side of JC Penney.
