Davenport Nominated for Best Riverfront

WVIK Staff

With just one week left, Quad Cities leaders are urging residents to vote for Davenport as the "Best American Riverfront." Today, Mayor Bill Gluba held a news conference to talk about how the USA Today contest could help the city.
Gluba says Davenport is one of 20 cities competing for the Best Riverfront. He thinks winning will increase tourism, money, and jobs in the Quad Cities.
Other cities competing for the "Best American Riverfront" include Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and Wilmington, North Carolina, which is currently in the lead.

Gluba says Davenport has yet to break into the top 5 for the contest. However, he's hopeful the city will land a spot in the top 10, which will be announced next week.
Quad Cities residents have until next Monday to vote for Davenport as "Best American Riverfront." The contest allows you to vote once a day by going to 10best.com.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
