Davenport Hardware Store Hosts FEMA Experts

Some experts from FEMA can help flood victims recover and prepare for future flooding. Two "mitigation specialists" are spending the week at Hayman's Westside Ace Hardware in Davenport to answer questions and give advice.

Agency spokeswoman Deanna Frazier says they'll help homeowners and contractors.

"The mitigation team will also have reference booklets on mold and mildew cleanup which is a big issue when dealing with water. As well as information on creating an emergency supply kit and flood-proofing for your home and business."

The specialists will be available at Hayman's 8 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday, and from 8 am to 5 pm next Saturday. Hayman's is at 1716 West Fourth Street in Davenport.

And this help is in addition to the FEMA specialists on hand at the former Office Max store at Northpark Mall who can help people register for grants and loans.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
