Davenport aldermen are set to review the second batch of bids for fixing up the Central Fire Station. The city plans to renovate and expand the 113-year-old building. Tonight, the city council will consider contracts with eight companies before voting next week.

Fire Chief Lynn Washburn says the council has already approved the first bid package for temporary electrical work and demolition. The second and third sets of bids are the main parts of the 15.2 million dollar project.

This set of bids includes steel, walls, heating, air conditioning, and electrical.

The city hired Bush Construction as general contractor for the project. It reviewed all the bids then chose the lowest, responsible bids to recommend.

Most of the eight companies are located in the Quad Cities. For example, J.W. Koehler Electric's bid was the lowest for electrical work, at about 1.1 million dollars. The other local subcontractors include Continental Fire Sprinkler Company, Crawford Company, McAdam Inc., Miller Trucking, Northwest Mechanical, and TreiberConstruction.

Washburn also says none of the contracts are required to pay prevailing wages because none of the funding is from the federal government.
