CVS Plans New Pharmacy in RI

city of Rock Island

Plans for a new drug store will be considered tonight by the Rock Island Planning Commission. CVS wants to build along 18th Avenue, on the former site of the Audubon School.

The city's Planning and Re-development Administrator, Ben Griffith, says plans call for a 13,000 square foot building on the western two-thirds of the property.
Griffith says the un-used one-third of the property would be left vacant, and any future development would require separate re-zoning and permission from the city.

The current CVS store is owned by Hy-Vee which included plans for the property when it expanded its grocery store in 2006.

Hy-Vee will build a convenience store with gas pumps.

If the Planning Commission approves, then the CVS plan would go to the Rock Island city council as soon as next week.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
