After a week off, Lunda construction employees got back to work Monday on the new I-74 bridge.

Danielle Alvarez, Project Manager from the Iowa Department of Transportation, says more than a week ago, Lunda notified the project team one employee tested positive for COVID-19.

The company temporarily halted work on its part of the bridge as a precautionary measure.

She says all the contractors have taken steps to follow government orders and guidelines to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

And Lunda was the only contractor that suspended work last week.

It's also too soon to tell if the pandemic will affect the I-74 bridge construction schedule.

Proposed change in Moline traffic detour for spring 2020

By the way, the project team is waiting for federal approval of its proposal to change this year's route for Illinois-bound traffic.

Ryan Hippen, from the Illinois DOT, says the new detour would move local traffic off the interstate to 19th Street (see photo).

And that would allow the contractor to work on the eastbound lanes between River Drive and 7th Avenue.

He hopes to have that approval within the next month.
