COVID-19 care packes from Unity Point Health and John Deere

Minority and low income families will soon receive some help coping with the pandemic. Unity Point Health and John Deere have packed 1,000 COVID-19 care packages for residents of the Quad Cities, Muscatine, and Des Moines.

Daniel Joiner, Diversity and Community Impact Officer for Unity Point Health Trinity, says the care packages will be distributed by the King Center in Rock Island, Friends of Martin Luther King in Davenport, the Esperanza Center in Moline, and World Relief.

"So we selected four organizations that have a really great pulse on what's taking place in these specific communities. We're workking with them to help us connect and reach those who need these resources the most."

Each COVID-19 care package includes paper towels, toilet paper, disinfectant spray, and hand sanitizer, plus brochures explaining how to use them all correctly.

Joiner says the care packages were packed last week, and they're being sent out to the four partner agencies for distribution.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
