Combined Federal Campaign Begins

The annual effort to raise money from federal workers for charity begins today. The kickoff for this year's Combined Federal Campaign was held on Arsenal Island.

Co-chair, Becca Freeman, says the Illowa Bi-State Combined Federal Campaign collects pledges from people in 37 Iowa and Illinois counties - including the military, federal agencies, the Postal Service, Transportation Security Agency, and federal courts.

Last year, federal employees in this area gave 401,000 dollars - with 45 per cent going to local charities, and 55 per cent going to national and international organizations.

The top three recipients were Saint Jude's Children's Hospital, the American Red Cross, and the Wounded Warrior Project.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
