Clinton Social Security Office Closes

Despite objections from local residents and members of Congress, the Social Security office in Clinton will close on Friday. Starting Monday, residents of the city and county will be served by the office in Davenport.
The agency says the closing is due to Congress cutting its administrative budget.
Several months ago when they first learned of the closing, Iowa US Senator Tom Harkin, and House members Bruce Braley and Dave Loebsack, sent letters to Social Security asking that the Clinton office stay open.
They say it serves more than 10,000 current beneficiaries, many of whom could not easily travel to Davenport. But the agency says most services do not require an office visit, and that recipients can contact Social Security online or by telephone.
The Davenport office is located at 43-19 North Brady Street.
