For at least a couple of hours, cancer patients in the Quad Cities will have fun working together to create art. Tomorrow morning, the Foundation for Hospital Art will host "Paintfest America" at Genesis Cancer Care Institute in Davenport.
Melissa Wright, from Gilda's Club, says 12 of the 36 cancer patients who will help paint two murals will be from Gilda's. Paintfest is a celebration of life and surviving cancer which creates a sense of fun and camaraderie.
No artistic talent is required because the canvasses are already outlined. They'll be hung together to create the murals. One of the panels will represent Iowa with paintings of the state bird and flower. It will be part of the 50-state mural called, "Stars of Hope" to be unveiled next month in New York.
Paintfest will be held tomorrow morning from 10 a.m. until noon in the atrium of Genesis Cancer Care in Davenport.
