A man convicted of a notorious child killing in western Illinois has died in prison. The Department of Corrections says 47 year old Ray Burgess died Tuesday at the Stateville Correctional Center.
So far, authorities are blaming his death on they call "significant pre-existing health issues."
Burgess was one of several men convicted in the mid-90's in Henry County of killing their girlfriends' children. He was found guilty of the 1994 death of 3 year old Matthew Mote - the son of his girlfriend, Deena Kent.
He was originally sentenced to death, but it was commuted to life in 2003 by then-governor George Ryan.
