The Davenport School Board has been studying poverty, and tonight members will discuss what to do about it. Ken Krumwiede is the chair of the district's committee on poverty.
He and deceased board member, Bill Sherwood, decided the board should read and discuss the book, "See Poverty, Be the Difference," by Dr. Donna Beegle.
Krumwiede says last month, the board talked about understanding types of poverty and how to serve people in poverty. During the final session tonight, members will start work on an action plan for the Davenport district.
Krumwiede says the school board may decide to review hundreds of policies with poverty in mind. For example, many low income families don't have cars and others can't afford child care.
Dr. Beegle will be on Skype for tonight's meeting to help the Davenport School Board explore other ideas about how to help poor families with students in the district.
Krumwiede says the board will eventually choose three to four to implement.
