BHC Looking for Two Presidents

Trustees of Black Hawk College are looking for two new presidents - not just one. Monday night, the board talked about a timeline for selecting an interim president and a possible longer-term timeline for replacing current President Bettie Truitt.

Board chair, Rick Fiems, says he's heard from several internal and external candidates for the interim job, and hopes to have one chosen by the end of the year. Then that person will probably lead the college for 6 months while the board looks for a new, permanent president.

"We're looking for someone that'll work with the board to help us build a financially stable, educationally sound institution that does what it's supposed to do as a community college - meets community needs and offers the kind of education programs that help people make their lives better."

Black Hawk trustees plan to interview three consultants in November, and then choose one to lead the search, hoping to hire a new president by next summer.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
