BHC Addition & Renovation

A renovation and construction project at Black Hawk College has reached an important milestone. This week, the final steel beam will be put in place for an addition to Building One on the Moline campus.

Chief Financial Officer Steve Frommelt says the 9,000 square foot addition will include 8 new classrooms - what he calls "collaborative classrooms."

"It's a larger square footage - each classroom will be about 1,000 square feet. And it allows for different configurations of the seating. It also has different seating from the traditional sled desk or desk and table."

The addition should be completed by next summer (2019).

Frommelt says the new classrooms are part of a 16 million dollar project in Building One that includes renovating all four floors - beginning last year and concluding next year - to update classrooms, faculty offices, and other college offices.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
